Town Experience

​

I have twenty years of active volunteer public service:

​

• Design Review Board (DRB) - 5 years

• Hacienda Foundation Board of Directors (BOD) - 5 years

• Planning Commission (PC) - 10 years

• Town Council (TC) - 8 years

​

I’ve led each organization and am proud of my positive impact, especially through working collaboratively with the other organization members.  Each of these organizations, through the members and supporting town staff, have had significant positive impact on Moraga.

 

The DRB and PC are important parts of Moraga's planning process.  These organizations have the role of representing Moraga's citizens in applying Moraga's General Plan, the Municipal Code and Design Guidelines.  These two organizations also serve the critical role of providing individual citizens the opportunity to express their input.

 

Consistent with the General Plan, the planning process must consider multiple factors.  The toughest applications are those which require facilitating an acceptable compromise between applicants and town citizen interests.  Following are several representative actions which I'm proud of:

• Achieving the visually attractive Sonsora Development (across Moraga Way from the Moraga Country Club) despite challenges of relatively steep hillside through extended serious negotiations with the developer.

• Significantly improving the design of 329 Rheem Blvd. (current Moraga Town Offices) from the originally proposed army barracks style stucco building.

• Avoiding visual blight of one or more 75 ft high cell towers at the top of Alta Mesa Dr. by limiting the approved cell antennas to multiple low-level ~15 ft high ground based panel antennas.

 

During my tenure on the Hacienda Foundation BOD, we focused on growing the visibility of the Hacienda to Moraga’s citizens, raising funds for building renovations and developing a long-term strategic plan.  We instituted annual Oktoberfest and Cinco de Mayo celebrations which were major community events.  We raised funds and were able to remodel several areas.  We developed a strategic plan which was presented to the Town Council.

 

I’m a 13-year member and current president of the Kiwanis Club of Moraga Valley.

Professional Experience

​

During my 33-year career with Chevron, I successfully handled a wide range of challenging and complex assignments. These included technical, project management, and later in my career, organization development (including mentoring).  During my career, I trained in making quality decisions, I practiced making quality decisions, and then I built organization competency in decision making, including a five-year worldwide leadership position. 

​

My experiences make me uniquely qualified, and energized, to help the Council.  Applying proven practices will help ensure quality decisions and a successful Moraga.  I’ll make a significant positive difference on the Council by building this critical competency.

• BS in Mechanical Engineering – University of Rhode Island

• MBA Finance – Seton Hall University (evening program while employed at Exxon)

• Licensed Mechanical Engineer – State of California - Retired

• Project Management Professional Certification from the Project Management Institute - Retired
